The wide-shot (WS) frames a large area and establishes where the action takes place, like a classroom or outdoors. It establishes where the action takes place; shows the viewer all the information about the subject.
A medium-shot (MS) carries most of the information in a scene. The subject when framed in a MS is at a perceived comfortable distance from the viewer. Eighty-percent of video stories are framed in a medium-shot. The close-up (CU) is used to draw the viewer’s attention to some object or action in the scene that the storyteller wants the audience to see and remember. A close-up excludes everything that’s not part of the important action and says, “Look at this! Pay attention.” |
